Human trafficking

Human trafficking is a criminal offence regulated in §§ 232 ff of the penal code (StGB). Human trafficking in Germany is the exploitation of a person by taking advantage of their predicament or of their helplessness due to the fact that they are from abroad. It includes sexual exploitation and exploitation of labour. In this paragraph young people are not considered to be adults until the age of 21 years. This means: women or men under 21 years of age who have never previously worked as sex workers are not allowed to be brought into prostitution. Employing or providing facilities to persons under 21 years of age can result in preliminary proceedings being taken out on the grounds of human trafficking.
